World politics is always influenced by numerous groups which devise various plans to advance their agenda and achieve power. Over the past decades, terrorism and different types of extremism have become a noticeable issue which evidently impacts the global political landscape. Al-Qaida is one of the most vocal and successful terrorist organizations which have managed to gain power by embracing radical measures.
As mentioned above, terrorism is a substantial issue faced by the global community, which in certain aspects forever changed the way countries approach their security. For instance, after the 9/11 tragedy, the U.S. government started a war in Iraq which affected the entire Middle East and gave rise to new anti-western movements in the region (Lucas, 2021). Terrorism can be viewed as an effective tool used by many groups for reaching their goals. Al-Qaida is a terrorist group which has been in existence for several decades and, despite being opposed by the United States, still manages to remain active. Al-Qaida constitutes a network of radicals whose ultimate goal is the creation of an Islamic caliphate (Al-Qaida, n.d.). The organizations preferred terrorist method involves detonating explosives and conducting bombings in public areas. Through such actions, the group seeks to demonstrate its power and attract new followers around the world. The organization often partners with less radical movements in the Middle East, such as the Taliban, since they share the same agenda. Al-Qaidas longevity and notoriety are a testament to the effectiveness of its activities.
Terrorism is a threat to global security, which all countries must recognize and address using all possible means. Nevertheless, organizations such as Al-Qaida remain active even despite facing pressure from the international community and are able to perform their attacks. Al-Qaida demonstrates an example of a network of radical individuals who have managed to gain popularity and continue to pursue their goals.
