Immigration is a big reason why families are separated. They move to the US or a different country because they feel like their country does not offer good job opportunities. Immigrants also struggle since they are highly discriminated against because of their work ethic. Many people would state that immigrants take job opportunities. The first immigrants migrated to North America and that later became known as the United States. During the last Ice Age, a group of Native American ancestors crossed land that connected Asia to North America. The United States is known as one of the main countries with immigrants. Currently, about 40 million people living in the United States were born in other countries, which counts as U of the world’s migrants. People leave the country they are in because of push or pull factors. Push factors push the people from the country away because of things happening in the country like a war. Pull factors pull people to a new home because they will have better opportunities in the new country like a better job. The reasons people migrate are usually economic, political, cultural, or environmental. Many would say that immigrants increase competition for jobs, houses, school facilities, etc. Immigration has faced injustice with the new DACA elimination process, dehumanization in detention centers, and mistreatment in the workplace.

Immigration has faced injustice with the new DACA elimination process. DACA is an acronym for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA is a policy that allows individuals to physically present in the United States without proper authorization, individuals are granted educational opportunities and work opportunities. In the United States after being brought to the country as children to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action which is an immigration status that the executive branch can grant from deportation and become eligible for a work permit in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had begun accepting applications for the program on August 15, 2012. At the beginning of June 2016, The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had received 844,931 initial applications for DACA status. 88% were approved, 7% were denied, and 5% were pending. DACA was brought up by the Trump Administration on September 5, 2017, This would allow an implementation to be put on hold for six months. Which will give Congress time to pass the Dream Act or some other legislative protection for Dreamers. TED HESSON and JOSH GERSTEIN stated by outlet Politico titled:

Supreme Court will hear arguments over DACA termination The issue that is presented is related to federalism by the federal government (Executive Branch)having a legal showdown over President Donald Trumps decision to phase out work authorization and deportation protections for 669,000 Dreamers who were illegally brought to the U.S.This issue is brought to light due since Trump, arguing that DACA would not withstand legal challenges initiated in September 2017.

(TED HESSON and JOSH GERSTEIN).

Three judges agreed to eliminate the plan while two high courts had ruled against Trumps wind-down. The people also defended their beliefs by being able to take the people’s argument on the topic of termination over DACA. This demonstrates that many protests or acts are being presented that will benefit the people who come to America to settle for a better outcome. This means that it has been understood that citizenship is a big topic and concern. An action that I would take to implement better regulation of immigration would be considered life-changing decisions being made over many young people’s lives. Many face problems such as being a minority and all they have are the right to education and obtain a job. Currently, first-time DACA applications are applicable. If you have DACA now and you havent applied for DACA in the past this does not apply to you.

Immigration has faced injustice due to the mistreatment in detention centers. The conditions at the detention centers are unsanitary, it is overcrowded, and personal hygiene is not given, with no soap, toothpaste, or showers. Children are being groped by officers, separated from families, and standing for long periods due to lack of space, lack of resources, and sick children. This is a case against holding immigrant children under dreadful conditions for over 20 days. This is enforced every so often which is the case that made detention center conditions livable and reasonable, these children are supposed to help with personal hygiene under this settlement. Many young kids are affected by long-lasting issues. In the text, it states :

They showed symptoms like, ‘wanting to cry all the time, wanting to be with [their] mom, conduct problems, such as fighting with other kids, or having temper tantrums, peer problems, so not having a lot of friends, or only wanting to interact with adults,’ she adds.

(Rhitu Chatterjee )

Detention centers lead to long-term effects for many children which are inhuman, kids are innocent and parents bring them here to achieve a successful future. They come with pure intentions. A new regulation was brought to light that discusses the removal of the Flores agreement, the Trump administration discussed this. The Flores Agreement was a court settlement that limited the amount of time a kid could be held in a detention center, the max is 20 days. This creates the ability for detentions to hold young kids for a long amount of time.

Immigration faces injustice with mistreatment in the workplace. Ozment Law stated problems immigrants face :

Workplace Fairness estimates there are about 6.5 million undocumented immigrant workers in the country. A large number of them face abuse on the job, including dangerous conditions, low pay, and other injustices that their employers would not think of inflicting upon native-born workers

(Ozment Law)

This indicates that 6.5 million immigrants suffer on a daily to be financially stable to maintain their families which puts them in jeopardy there health and safety due to mistreatment. Immigrants come to America to achieve a successful life for themselves and their kids. They want to achieve the American Dream. Another example is The Bracero Program is a series of laws and intentional relationship agreements that were established on August 4, 1942, when the United States signed the Mexican Farm Labor Agreement with Mexico. The US would bring people from Mexico to become farmers then they would get sent back when they were done. The workers were also paid very little and sometimes they weren’t even paid they would just get sent back. Braceros only had the option of working in the fields. The Bracero Program was a primary example of how immigrants were not granted the same rights as everybody else, they had to work the fields in any weather and were not rewarded at the end, they were falsely taken to work for nothing in exchange at times.

To conclude immigrants faced injustice with the new DACA, inhumane conditions in detention centers, and mistreatment in the workplace. DACA provided young immigrants with life-changing benefits. Detention Centers can lead to mental illness for young kids. Immigrants are known to get fewer wages and over hours for example as mistreatment at work. Immigrants are known to come for a better future for themselves and their kids. Many come here to work and help the economy grow. Many would say that immigrants increase competition for jobs, houses, school facilities, etc, but it’s been statistically proven that immigrants boost the economy by paying an estimated $7 billion per year into Social Security. Also, millions of dollars are spent per year, and the US then gets a boost which creates new jobs and supports the economy. so their presence is beneficial.
