Not every reader finds a series of books that are pleasurable to read by the same author. For S.E Hinton, her books are extremely eye capturing for many readers of all ages. Have you ever read a book that is extremely hard to put down? Well with Hinton’s books, that is the feeling you will get when reading her books. Hinton has an extraordinary story on how she started her journey of writing. She has impacted many lives, and even earned several awards for her amazing work. There are many different writers in this world that write fantastic different novels, but Hinton seems to have a deep love for her writings and shows a lot of her talent in her different works of novels for adults, teens, and kids.
S.E Hinton was born on July 23, 1948 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is still living to this day. When Hinton was a kid, there wasnt much for kids to do, so she would try to find different things to do by using her creative mind. Hintons name she uses for many of her works, SE. Hinton actually stands for Susan Eloise. She never really liked using her full name so she decided to make it shorter. When Hinton was younger, she dreamed of being a cattle rancher when she grew up, after she wrote her first book, The Outsiders, she found that her talent was writing and decided to pursue it in the future. I wish I was a kid again, when I had all the answers,” says Hinton. Hinton went to Will Rogers High School in Oklahoma, and when she was a junior in highschool, she wrote her first book that has become her most popular book. Hinton was known to be a very modest person, who was very selfless and would rather make a joke of something rather than boasting about herself. In 1970, Susan Elaine married her husband, David E. Inhofe, on September 26. In August 1983, Susan and David had their first and only son, Nicholas David Inhofe. While raising her first child, Susan had to take a break from writing to give all her attention on Nicholas.
While many authors have a good amount of extraordinary works, Hinton was very well known for her amazing significant works that were a joy to read to many others. Hinton produced 5 teen books including: The Outsiders, That Was Then, This is Now, Rumble Fish, Tex, and Taming Star, as well as two children’s books: The Puppy Sister and Big David, Little David. She also made 1 movie for the novel, Tex, and a few different films for her teen books. The Outsiders was Hinton’s first book, written in 1967, while Hinton was still in highschool. The Outsider is and extraordinary book about two gangs, the Socials and the Greasers, who are defined as one wealthy and one less wealthy. Stay tuff and nothing can hurt you, get smart and nothing can touch you,” says Hinton, from her book The Outsiders. The Greasers have gotten themselves in a severe situation by causing a death and need to find a way to get out of it. Susan does an extraordinary job using so many descriptive vocabulary, and telling an amazing story that can inspire and teach a huge audience many life skills to use. Hinton meant for this book to inspire teens to stay strong and do the right thing in hard situations that they go through. She also tried to base this book on the tragic events happening in many adults and teens lives during the time zone of this books production. Not only was this book an inspiration for others, but it was also made for a pretty cool reason. Susan Eloise wrote this book while her dad was fighting a very serious cancer. This book was meant to raise money for her dad’s condition as well as his medical bills. This book just so happened to become very popular and her most popular novel out of all her extraordinary works. Hintons next book was That Was The, This is Now, published in 1975, eight years after her last novel. This book was about two brothers, one is educated, and the other one wants to continue life in drugs and crime. Shown from this book and her last book, The Outsiders, most of Susans books were about crime, gangs, and contributed to what her life was like when she was a kid, and when she wrote each book. HInton’s next book was Rumble Fish, published in 1975. Rumble Fish is a novel about a boy who grows up and loses everything meaningful to him in life. After Rumble Fish, Tex was her next piece of literature, written in 1979. Her last adult book was Taming The Star Runner, published in 1988. Taming The Star Runner was about a boy named Travis, and was her only book written in a third person perspective. After all of Hinton’s adult books, she wrote two kid books, Puppy Sister and Big David, Little David, both published in 1995. Hinton didnt really plan to write children’s books, but these two books were just something fun for her to write. Not only did Hinton write books, but she did produce a few films about her books. She had four films made for her books, Tex, Rumble Fish, That Was Then, This Is Now, and The Outsiders. Both The Outsiders, and Tex were bought by disney after they were made. This didnt bother Hinton, but it made her feel more uncomfortable than usual, that someone was buying her own production she had worked on. Hinton showed a huge impact on others from every piece of her significant works from novels to films.
Hinton is not only well known for all of her different genres of books, but is also known for her amazing historical impact on many audiences. S.E Hinton is known for being one of the top authors for all the impact she made on many teens lives. Nothing can wear you out like caring for humans,” said Hinton. Hinton tried to write her books on events that were happening either when she was a child or in the time the book was being written. Hinton writes all her books on significant events going on, but most of them were about drugs, crime, gangs, or different things teens would be having trouble with in their lives. Hinton is one of the only authors that shaddows her writings on teens everyday lives. Many different people would rely on her books for a good perspective on live, or good life lessons to learn from different situations. Some of her books, like The outsiders, gives advice on how to handle situations when they become bad, instead of trying to use crime as a solution. Things are rough all over, speaks Hinton from her book, The Outsiders. Most of hinton inspirational quotes are from her book, The Outsiders, because this book uses a lot of inspiration for others, and shows so many important life lessons to others. Hinton inspires other to always keep fighting and never give up as she quotes in her book The Outsiders, stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold. Some could say that Hinton’s book completely changed their lives, making them feel like they arent the only ones going through hard times.
After all the impact made by Hinton, it was time for her to earn a few awards as recognition for her different impacted writings. Hinton was awarded New York Herald Tribune Best Teenage Books List in 1967. After that award, she was awarded her biggest award, the ALA Best Books For Young Adults. She was awarded this award four times which was a huge honor for her. Winning this award that many times was a huge success and proud moment for Hinton and everyone who has supported her through her writing career. Hinton won many other awards, but these were her top two awards. Hinton was very proud and honored for all her award she had earned.
