The word Animal abuse is a word that not many of us seem to like due to most of us having a fond connection to animals in our lives. Well who in their right mind would like animal abuse nobody does because we care for all animals from the smallest of mice to big as a grizzly bear. But should we care for animals that aren’t human or don’t have feelings, well believe it or not animals can understand and feel just like we can just because they have hair and look a bit unintelligent doesn’t mean they cannot feel pain. Precisely they can feel more pain than we do because every animal has its ups and downs like. An example that can be given is the dog,the dog is the most popular breed among people due to their intelligent and loyal personalities like the German Shepherd,Golden Retriever, Shiba Inu, etc. But what has been seen is that smaller breeds like chihuahuas or miniature poodles are often abandoned on the streets because the owners either dont like the breed or they don’t want to take the responsibility of taking care of a dog which in a way is considered animal abuse.

There is also the subject of Dog fighting which is a sport/activity where people breed/shape up their dogs to fight other dogs and other people get to bet on the canine that they think will win the fight. The dog that doesn’t win the fight will get euthanized, abandoned, or will die in the fight which is a gruesome way for an animal to die since it will be very painful. This is one reason why some people fear larger dogs like Huskies, German Shepherds, and Pit bulls, it is unfair that those dogs are treated and seen as fighting objects to entertain people. Even though here in California dog fighting is illegal, some other states still have underground dog fighting like some parts of Japan, Russia, and East Europe. Some injuries that the dogs receive are blood loss, puncture wounds broken bones, etc, if the injuries aren’t treated then pain will emerge from the wound and affect it which will kill the dog a slow death, and infect the dog’s bones.

Puppy mills are also a problem in this society What is a puppy mill? well a puppy mill is a camp where people force dogs to breed in horrible conditions for profit.Even before the puppies that are bred can open their eyes they get taken away from their mother to be sold or to start having people bid on the puppy. The size where they keep the dogs is extremely small and cramped cages like rabbit/chicken coops with almost no water or food and they are forced to live in their feces. When neither parent can produce any more supply for a puppy they are thrown out or they are immediately killed and replaced with other dogs of the same breed, and if a defective puppy is born they are abandoned by the breeder. The puppies are also often bred between littermates which can cause some disability and disease for example one of those diseases is that your pet’s back legs stop working when they start to get older which leads to them not having a functioning body at the end. Some of you may know or may not know what Greyhound racing is well let’s just say that it’s like horse track racing but with dogs. In other words, greyhound racing is an industry where they raise and train specifically greyhounds at 18 months old to racing because that’s what they’ll be doing for the rest of their lives.

The Greyhounds in the industry aren’t kept in good condition for example the kennels where the dogs are kept are all dirty and have a lot of feces in them which can be harmful to the dogs, they also almost have no room in their kennel to walk so all they can do in there is jump or spin in circles until they become tired. Most of the dogs spend at least half of the day running on the track until there is a selected winner among the group of dogs if they are even lucky enough to survive then they’ll get rewarded with food and water. The dogs who lose are often kept to draw out their blood to sell to vet clinics, those companies who do that are called Blood Banks they are in charge of drawing the dog’s blood out and keeping in contact with the vet clinics to sell the blood.

I the dogs do not have healthy blood to give to the clinics then they are kept by the industry and locked in their kennel to die of hunger or infections. One infection that dogs receive when dying is pneumonia which is a most common illness that comes upon dogs and gives them a slow and painful death. If the illness doesn’t kill them then the workers do it themselves by hanging them against walls or beating them until they stop moving which is unfair to the poor dogs since they are unable to defend themselves. Unfortunately, Greyhound racing isn’t the only good racing sport there is also Sled Dog racing which is mostly husky dogs forced to pull heavy sleds and by doing so the thin harness cuts deep into their skin and get frostbites on their paws. Some states that still allow greyhound racing are Alabama, China, Lowa, Texas, and Thailand. As I’ve mentioned before greyhounds receive injuries when racing such as broken bones/spines, heat strokes, numbness, and paralysis. To stop this you can go to the ASPCA website and donate or volunteer to put the Greyhound industry down.
