Have you ever sat down and wondered how many people in The United States are voting? Well, maybe we should it would make a huge difference our country. Voting is an important thing we can do as citizens. It could help us voice our opinion on the people and things in the US. We should have mandatory voting because it could address issues in politics, help citizens pay attention to elections, bring citizens together and increase voter turnouts. Although mandatory voting would benefit us, it could also be a bad thing. For example, Brazil has mandatory voting and when the people fail to vote they cant obtain their passports or do other restrictions. In order for them to go back to their responsibilities, they would have to appear in the electoral court or wait until they have voted in two recent elections.
When making voting mandatory the citizen would help address issues in politics. When more people would come together it could create a discussion on the issues concerning the politics. According to Aid for Our Propose, Part of the reason for this interest is increased concern about political and economic inequality. Insofar as unequal patterns of political participation contribute to unequal representation and to policy outputs that disproportionately favor the interests of wealthier citizens, mandatory turnout is seen by some as a way to address these sorts of pressing inequalities through promoting electoral participation among economically and politically marginalized groups (Elliott 1). This means politics mainly focus on wealthy people and they do not show a good representation of all the citizens. Having mandatory voting will show the politics that everyone is equal and has a voice to be heard.
Many people realize the impact on the country once they pay attention. The citizens would pay close attention if voting was mandatory. When picking candidates to represent us as a country there need to be certain things we look out for. Citizen would need to follow along with the elections. We shouldnt pick the person just because we like them or because they represent a certain side. There would need to be background information, research done, and their vision for us. This would help us focus on the more important things because we dont want the wrong person running our country. It could benefit us to learn more about the issues and see whats going on in the world. According to Should Voting be Mandatory, If voting were mandatory, more people would be forced to pay close attention to the election. A mandatory vote might inspire citizens, especially young voters, to learn about the issues facing our country (Tetedje and Gardner 1). This means when more people are, they will learn more about the issues we are facing.
When more people are involved in choosing their representative there would be a higher level of trust. The citizens make up a big part of the United States so it wouldnt be fair if people were singled out. We all pay the same taxes and want the same for our country so making voting equal and listening to everyones opinion would only be fair. According to the authors, If Americans want their government to truly be of the people, by the people, and for the people, everyone has to go to the polls on Election Day.
