My current career and personal goals explain why I definitely fit into the IOMs Future of Nursing recommendations. To begin with, the fourth recommendation focuses on the best ways to increase the percentage of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80 percent. After completing my current degree program, I will have supported this goal. It will also be my duty to encourage and attract more people to embrace the profession (Fineberg & Lavizzo-Mourey, 2016). The individuals will complete their bachelors degrees and become competent caregivers.

The fifth recommendation is aimed at doubling the number of nurses with doctorate degrees by the year 2020. In order to be part of this transition, I am planning to complete a doctorate degree. This move will widen my competencies and make me a competent provider of quality patient services. The sixth recommendation has been implemented in order to ensure more nurses embrace the power of lifelong learning (Hassmiller & Reinhard, 2015). My nursing philosophy is informed by the use of evidence-based ideas and scientific concepts. I am also planning to read widely, interact with different professionals, and join various multidisciplinary teams. These measures will make me a proficient nurse whose care delivery models are guided by lifelong learning. I am planning to encourage my followers, workmates, and colleagues to embrace the concept.

My Options in the Job Market based on My Educational Level

The nursing profession has become one of the most competitive fields in the healthcare sector. The field is also characterized by numerous challenges such as reduced opportunities and staff shortage (Hassmiller & Reinhard, 2015). After completing my BSN program, I will be in a position to compete successfully in the job market. The educational background will make it easier for me to identify different career opportunities and nursing environments that can support my professional goals. As indicated earlier, I am planning to complete my masters and doctorate programs. The achievement will make it easier for me to compete successfully in the current job market. The acquired concepts, skills, and dexterities will be used to deliver exemplary and quality patient care in a wide range of healthcare settings. This means that I will find it easier to get a better job. The idea of lifelong learning will also widen my competencies as a nurse and eventually make me competitive in the job market.

The other agreeable fact is that the decision to increase my level of education will definitely inform my role as a nurse practitioner. The future of nursing is a concept aimed at transforming the manner in which care is delivered to different patients. After increasing my level of education, I will be able to become a competent provider of exemplary services to the targeted patients. I will also understand how to embrace various competencies such as evidence-based practice, cultural competence, patient-centered care, and multidisciplinary teams in the nursing environment. These attributes will definitely make me a pioneer of sustainable changes in the field of nursing. Experts in the field have been focusing on the best approaches to transform the future of nursing. By advancing my education level, I will have fulfilled the recommendations outlined by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Consequently, I will have increased the number of nurses with both doctorate and baccalaureate degrees (Fineberg & Lavizzo-Mourey, 2016). This achievement will ensure quality and evidence-based nursing services are available to every patient.
