As a student, I have read lots of stories and articles about the use of illegal drugs and drug addiction. I, too, have seen and heard various news about this topic on national television. But I would say that the video presentations Ive just watched are collectively comprehensive and all-inclusive. The presentation has a strong and clear message to everyone. That is, no one wins with illegal drugs! Illegal drugs and drug addiction pose or constitute serious problems to ones value and dignity, family, community, and the whole nation, in general.
The life of drug addicts becomes spoiled in all aspects. They become powerless over their addiction and their lives are unmanageable and miserable. They lose self-respect and dignity, they cease to dream for their future, they forget to understand their purpose in life, they begin to destroy themselves, they lose contact with their family and they live in a different world. They spend lots of money on drugs and then look for ways to earn money illegally. Indeed, drug addicts do have a very complicated and unhappy life. In my judgment, I think it is better not to try to use any kind of illegal drugs. The initial decision to take drugs is voluntary for most people, thus, it would be safer to say no immediately on the first instance, even under peer pressure or influence from people around us. This way, drug addiction will not happen at all.
The alarming rate of drug dependence has always been a problem and has detrimental effects. Moreover, drug addiction is a worldwide problem, not only with ordinary teenagers but also with famous personalities, party-goers, and wealthy people. It can happen to anyone who has a weak relationship with God and fragile family values. If we scrutinize the health problems, there are many dangerous effects of drugs such as HIV AIDS, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and possibly death. It has to be noted that drug addiction is a chronic disease that affects a person’s brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of an illegal drug. Seriously, repeated drug use can lead to brain changes that challenge an addicted persons self-control and interfere with their ability to resist intense urges to take drugs. The physiological effects of drug addiction can be difficult to endure.
There is an uncontrollable desire to consume drugs, as a result of which addicted people engage in compulsive behavior to take drugs. The addicts find it impossible to control the intake of drugs, and as a result, they fail to fulfill day-to-day responsibilities efficiently. That is why, they must be treated for their condition professionally. Professional help from a medical doctor or therapist, family, friends, or support group with a well-organized treatment program is encouraged. The good news, on the other hand, is that drug use and addiction can be prevented. Teachers, parents, relatives, and healthcare workers have vital roles in teaching adolescents and stopping drug use and addiction.
