The article written by Stan Taylor centers around the changes in supervision practices which became necessary due to the new ways and methods of doctoral education. Last several decades have brought transformations in terms of formalization, growth and diversification of the candidate population, diversification of modes of and diversification of purposes of study. Supervision now needs to reflect these changes in order to be effective and beneficial. That is why, the main aim of this article is to find out what changes should be made to existing system for it to be in conformity with modern standards. The author investigates different aspects of the problem, such as the changing environment, key attributes, which supervisors need to offer to their students, professional development of doctoral supervisors and resources which are needed for their professional development. Analyzing the problem, the author comes to conclusion that supervisors should be supplied with high quality resources for them to be able to give modern and qualified support for students and guarantee their professional growth. The author just not states the need in modern resources, however, the list of all possible sources and links for development of supervisors is given. With this in mind, it is possible to say, that this work can be used in our following investigations. Following on from the key attributes identified, the papers framework outline for professional development of supervisors can be utilized to generate workshops to support supervisors at Avondale. Staff in our open forum discussion with Janet Carton have already identified similar aims to those presented in the papers framework. The resource section can be compared to our existing collection and used to update it.
