Laziness is something that affects all of us at some point or another and for us as muslims it is something serious and shouldnt be taken lightly, especially when it comes to acts of worship. Sadly. It is something that is being overlooked in the muslim society today. AIMS & OBJECTIVES My aim is enlightened you about Laziness or kasal which is something that should not be taken lightly especially when it comes to religion. We all know as muslims we should always be steadfast in our duties towards Allah (swt). Moreover, I would like to take this time to elaborate on this topic since it is something that affects all of at some point. BODY What is laziness? This term maybe defined as indolence where we are disinclination to activities, having the ability to act or to exert oneself. This is where we lack of ability. Laziness may be considering a habit rather than a mental health issue . It shows the decrease level of motivation in oneself and caused by distraction. We normally think that personal laziness as the feeling of not wanting to do something even though we should.

This normally works with mindset. In surah Nisa verses 142 Allah mentions: Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but it is He who deceives them. And when they stand up for salaah, they stand with laziness and stand to be stand by men, and they do not remember Allah but little. This ayah is simply explaining when Allah mention in the ayah, (And when they stand up for Salah, they stand with laziness). This is the characteristic of the hypocrites with the most honored, best and righteous act of worship, the prayer. When they stand for prayer, they stand in laziness because they neither truly intend to perform it nor do they believe in it, have humility in it, or understand it. This is the description of their outward attitude! As for their hearts, Allah said, (and stand to be seen of men) meaning, they do not have sincerity when worshipping Allah. Rather, they show off to people so that they gain closeness to them. They are often absent from the prayers that they can hide away from, such as the `Isha’ prayer and the Dawn prayer that are prayed in darkness. And the last part where he mentioned, (And they do not remember Allah but little) means, during the prayer they do not feel humbleness or pay attention to what they are reciting.

Rather, during their prayer, they are inattentive, jesting and avoid the good that they are meant to receive from prayer. Abu Hurairah narrates that the Rasul (S.A) said: Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you who is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the following words: the night is long so stay asleep, when one wakes up and remembers Allah the one knot is undone, and when one preforms ablution (wudhu) the second knot is undone and when one prays the third knot is undone and one gets up with a good heart in the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart.

HOW LAZINESS AFFECTS US

How laziness affects us as students- we all know as students we get homework to see how well we understand what is being thought but then laziness takes over for example the teacher gives vocabs to learns, you make the mindset to do it but when the time comes you become lackadaisical and want to leave it for some other time.

Laziness towards the act of worship- this the laziness towards reciting of the Quran, praying , fasting etc. This where we think the world is leaving us. For example, we spend hours upon hours viewing tv shows and salat time comes in we tend to feel lazy and say oh I will do that later, but in reality that later never comes and we are still watching movie not tired or lazy at all.

Laziness towards oneself- this is where we just forget about everything commit to oneself and do as we please whenever we please.

TIPS TOWARDS OVERCOMING LAZINESS

Time is relative. In such cases we should try to indulge ourselves in activities, or occupy our self in things which will help us to have the mindset to keep going. We as muslims should be accountable for each and everything we do. Laziness shouldnt be an act which we turn to and forget the realistic purpose of being here in this world. We dont want to be asking ourselves what were we doing in all this time and should have done this at that time. If a man does not know how precious time is ,he would have wasted his life. Allah (swt) has given us time for everything and may he safeguard us from sins that we are committing.

  • Surround yourself with righteous people
  • Dont make excuses
  • Fight your yawns
  • Recite duaas

CONCLUSION

In conclusion we as student should be considerate in what they do. Allah knows what there is that we can and cant do .Furthermore on the day of judgement we dont want to be consider hypocrites but want to be happy standing by our Nabi (s.w.s). May Allah (swt) be pleased with us. Ameen.
