Throughout all of the readings this semester, weve read about many heroes and knights. We learned what it means to be a hero and what attributes made them heroes. I will be discussing three different works and Ill be discussing what it is that characterized these people as heroes/ knights.

The first work Ill be discussing is The Epic of Sundiata. Sundiata is an epic hero because he embodies all of the qualities of an epic hero. He performed amazing feats, and endured difficult trials and tribulations. Sundiata was important and praised by his people. He would also adhere to higher morals, He chose to be the bigger man. Another thing about him is that he portrays a perfect picture of society. Since he was elected to represent Mali as a whole, he had to set a good example and guide his nation on the basis of the values of his political community. Overall Sundiata was just a great hero with high moral values and great leadership skills which helped him lead his people.

Next, Ill be discussing one of my favorite works from this semester, Beowulf. Beowulf possesses many characteristics that make him an amazing protagonist. Some of the most important characteristics of Beowulf as an epic protagonist include courage, integrity, honesty, extraordinary physical strength, and willingness to risk his life for the better. Beowulf truly embodied all the characteristics of a true hero and ruler. He not only was strong and courageous but he also risked his life for his people without a second thought. I dont know about you, but that is truly a hero in my eyes.

Lastly, Ill be discussing Don Quixote. Don Quixote was a brave knight. Although he came off as a fool, his acts of bravery, courage, and chivalry defined him as a heroic knight. Don Quixote encountered danger and faced it, even in his old age.For instance, he fought all the men with Aldonza in order to protect her from the muleteers. Throughout the work, Don Quixote exemplifies a perfect heroic knight. Another great example would be when he shows us his bravery. He encountered windmills, thinking they were giants and tried to defeat them. Although he tried to attack them, his intentions were to save the world from these beasts and he was willing to put his own safety on the line to do so.

To conclude, all three of the works that were stated each had a hero/ knight. Each hero embodied all the characteristics of a true epic hero/ knight. A hero is someone who in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a role model.Don Quixote, Beowulf, and Sundiata all represent courage, integrity, honesty, extraordinary physical strength, and willingness to risk his life for the better.
