ESOL 200
Final Report (25%)
Please read the following instructions completely:
Rationale: The purpose of the Final Report is to analyze a specific complex social problem and
its connection to industry using a systems thinking approach. The purpose of the report is not
to solve the problem. You present a problem followed by a possible solution or a series of
suggestions aimed at improving something.
Format: How you design and structure your report is up to you – it depends on the topic you
have chosen and the information you have. However, the report should be organized into clear,
logical sections, with a clear heading for each section. All the information in the report that comes
from research must be fully paraphrased, cited in text and as a reference at the end of the report.
Description
You will be working on a topic you chose in Week 8 based on the list of suggested topics.
You will make sure you have a visible and well-organized problem-solution structure. You
should identify a specific problem at the workplace of your choice and offer a realistic, well-
argued, and detailed solution to the problem.
Remember to analyze your audience and connect with them well and give them a strong call-to-
action at the end.
Make sure the report follows this model: Front Matter – Body – Back Matter
Front Matter (15 points):
1. Title Page
2. Executive Summary
3. Table of Contents
Body (60 points):
Make sure to include relevant infographics in your report.
1. Introduction: Purpose/Scope/Sources & Methods
2. Body of the Report
3. Findings and Recommendations
Back Matter (10 points):
1. References Page (you must identify and use at least three external sources for your
research. They must be academic sources (Jstor; Pro Quest; project Muse, etc.)
2. Appendix (optional)
Infographics + Grammar & Mechanics (15 points)
Submission Guidelines: The Final Report must be submitted by the deadline using the
Assignment Tool on Blackboard. The SafeAssign tool will check your report for evidence of
plagiarism, so be sure to check the SafeAssign report before you submit your final copy of the
report. You will have two attempts to submit your report. Only the final attempt will be graded.
Report Instructions
The report should be approximately 1200-1500 words in length and include the following
components (much of this will come from the Project Portfolio tasks you have already
completed):
1. A title page and table of contents.
2. An introduction which outlines the purpose of the report (to analyze a specific complex
social problem and its connection to the industry in which you will work). (PP 2) It should
also include the scope of the report as well as the sources and methods used.
3. A research component which addresses specific research questions related to your
topic. (CP Task 11.1)
4. A discussion on the stakeholders involved in the problem and their roles. Prioritize the
stakeholders.
5. A discussion on how using the links and nodes model can help us look at the problem
from an interconnected point of view. This should include a links and nodes diagram
and a few paragraphs explaining it. You may want to use only ONE of these models. It is
fine, but make sure to provide a rationale for your choice.
6. A discussion on how the iceberg model can help us look at the different levels involved
in the problem (events, patterns, underlying structures, mental models). This should
include an iceberg model diagram and a few paragraphs explaining it.
7. An overall discussion on how systems thinking can help us analyze and evaluate the
problem from a holistic, interconnected point of view. How can systems thinking help us
become better problem solvers?
8. A list of at least three credible references. Two of them must be from Humber Library.
Any evidence of plagiarism will result in a grade of zero.
