Welcoming
a new employee into your organization is always a happy occasion. After
all, the work of recruiting, interviewing, selecting, background
checks, etc. it is really a good feeling to know that you have a new
employee starting who fits your requirements for the position. Your
attention should turn towards the first day of work and how to introduce
them into your organization.
As the HIM Manager at
Greatlakes Hospital, you recently hired a new Information and Record
Clerk and plan to create a new employee orientation package. You want to
put the new staff member at ease as much as possible, as they are eager
to learn the ropes, and you want to get them into work production as
soon as possible. You must consider what should be covered in her
orientation, work schedule, and expectations for her job
responsibilities. You also want her to feel welcomed, informed and
prepared for the new role.
THREE: Instructions for Deliverable
Create
a new employee orientation package for an Information and Record Clerk
to include an introduction, checklist, work schedule, job expectations,
behavior, and performance requirements.
In an 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation:
· Introduce the HIM department, key functions, and your role as the HIM manager.
· Describe the role of Information and Record Clerk.
·
Create a checklist of orientation activities to show items you plan to
cover. For example, a tour of the department, workspace, and where the
supplies are kept.
· Outline a work schedule. Consider that a
work schedule is needed by an HIM department where there are multiple
employees and multiple shifts of work.
· Describe the changing
HIM roles and outlook for HIM professionals. Specifically address the
future of the Information and Record Clerk (or related) role.
· Identify key disciplinary actions that may be used to address employee behavior.
· Explain types of performance appraisal activities used to evaluate employee performance. Use the Record Clerk as an example.
