David Ignatius’ account: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/global-opinions/how-a-chilling-saudi-cyberwar-ensnared-jamal-khashoggi/2018/12/07/f5f048fe-f975-11e8-8c9a-860ce2a8148f_story.html?noredirect=on
Drawing on the film and in Deibert’s 2015 article, explain how the Saudi information war contributed to the death of Khashoggi, and how David Ignatius’ account enriches the standard “intolerance of opposition” argument used to explain his murder. Reflect both on tools used to ensnare him and the reasons why the Saudis might have found him troublesome. Does this case (and the videos more generally) affect your opinion about whether social media alters the balance of power between authorities and challengers? Does it make you think differently about the import of what Deibert called third generation controls?
