Midterm Project Descriiption and Rubric
The midterm project will give students the opportunity to analyze real data sets using StatCrunch
and provide a summary of the analysis results. Students are expected to complete this assignment
individually following the rubric below by the date indicated in the course calendar at the end of
the syllabus. Please note that the midterm project will be submitted in Brightspace and will not be
accepted late under any circumstance.
If you currently do not have access to Microsoft Word, you can gain free access to Microsoft Office

The dataset that will be analyzed is available in Statcrunch. Access Statcrunch from our
Brightspace course and then click on the Data Sets link. You will need to search for our dataset
titled ‘Student Engagement Survey’. Once you open the dataset, you will see a random sample of
students’ responses to the survey you filled out in a previous discussion board (Discussion Board

Topic 1: College Student Motivation and Support
Topic 2: Barriers to Success in Mathematics College Classes
Topic 3: Financial and Social Factors Impacting College Students
You have flexibility in how you present your research and analysis on your chosen topic in your
written paper. However, all submissions should include the elements described in the rubric
below. After completing all the requested parts, click on the Projects link in Brightspace and click
on the Submit Midterm Project link to submit your project. There is no minimum or maximum
page or word count requirement. However, please make sure to include complete sentences and
correct grammar and punctuation in your paper as well as a references page.
