Each student is required to select and post an artifact (a song, image of something, or text) from a specific culture covered in this module. This artifact should be something that the culture itself would consider as significant rather than a personal interpretation or an external critique. Examples could include mythological stories, religious texts, historical events, artworks, music, or folklore. You must also respond to one other student.
Guidelines
Selection of Artifact:Choose a song, image, text, or other artifact that is considered significant by the culture/from the context from which it originates.
Ensure the artifact is respectful and does not promote derogatory views about the culture or religion.
Avoid personal interpretations or external judgments; focus on the cultural context. Try to avoid judging, when you reflect.
Contextual Analysis:Provide a brief description of the artifact.
Explain the cultural and historical context of the artifact.
Discuss why this artifact is considered significant within its culture.
Respond to one other student.
Reflect on how this artifact might be similar or might differ from what we understand to be significant. Make connections, not judgments.
Submission Details:Post your artifact and analysis on this assignment.
Include the following information in your post:Title of the Artifact
Source/Culture of the Artifact
Description and Context (150 min words)
Explanation of Why It Is Considered Significant(150 min words)
Respond to one other student discussing their artifact (150 min words)
Total of 650 words (650 for your main post + 150 for response to another student)
Examples of Artifacts:
A song that narrates a story of a figure or event.
An image depicting a scene from a myth or legend.
A text excerpt from a religious or historical document
Evaluation Criteria:
Relevance and appropriateness of the chosen artifact.
Depth and accuracy of the cultural and historical context provided.
Insightfulness of the analysis regarding why the artifact is significant.
Response to one other student.
