Mental health is an important factor affecting both the overall quality of life and the individuals physical condition. The article Survey of Americans Who Attempted Suicide Finds Many Arent Getting Care states that there is an increase in suicides associated with mental illness, stigma, and difficulties in the healthcare system (Barry, 2022). The relevance of this issue made me choose this article. Moreover, I found it interesting that suicide rates directly depend on the degree of accessibility to healthcare services. Thus, the more possibilities for medical attendance the person has, the lower the chances of committing a suicide attempt are.

It relates to the current state of society as there is an increase in psychological pressure on people due to a variety of reasons, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and political tension. It leads to stress, depression, and consequently to mental illnesses, and that is how it is related to what I know about sociology. Moreover, it connects society and health by the direct interrelation between social items, namely healthcare services and mental health aspects. Besides, it reminds me of the course reading about labeling mental illness. Thus, people who do not experience stigma and have access to high-quality healthcare services have a higher quality of life.

Talking about the questions that this article leaves me, I would notice that they are connected to the possible solution to the problem. Therefore, it is essential for me to find out how government can provide high-quality medical services to the population. The relevance of this issue is formulated by rising rates of suicides. Thus, the situation may become critical in the nearest future. Moreover, I am interested in an assurance that I will be provided with appropriate healthcare services if needed, which also constitutes the importance of this issue.
