The Strategy Comprehensive Exam Committee discussed your 3rd comprehensive exam, both the written and oral components. The committee believes that while the topic may have merit, there were a number of deficiencies in the response, including:
A lack of clarity regarding its focus—i.e., telehealth vs. virtual hospital. This is due, in part, to a lack of definition and contextualization to motivate the research. Without this, it is too easy for readers to question whether the study is making a contribution and what that contribution may be.
The theoretical framework needs development. For example, why are the Technology Acceptance Model and Patient-Centered Care Theory the right frameworks for this research? To what extent, if any, do these theories relate to and/or complement each other? How can these theories be applied to support your proposed hypotheses and corresponding methods? Given that your examination is specific to the context of Suadi Arabia, further discussion of the context might aid in explaining the application of these theories and concepts and how your hypotheses contribute.
Similar to the theoretical arguments, the methods are underdeveloped and insufficiently described. E.g., how will/are the data being generated? To what extent are factors identified in your literature review and theoretical frameworks that are known to affect the constructs of interest reflected in your data? How will they be reflected in your analysis?
Given these issues and their consequences for the validity of any study findings, the committee has assigned an overall grade of FAIL on the exam. Because this was your first attempt on this exam, you have the opportunity to retake the exam. Given the range of issues we identified and what’s at stake (i.e., failure on the second exam will mean dismissal from the program), you will have one (1) month to complete the second attempt of your 3rd comprehensive exam instead of the usual one (1) week. The second exam will again include a written and oral component.
