Comparative Essay = 150 points
Write a comparative analysis on thehistorical experiences of at least two (or more) groups that we have discussed in class in the first half of the semester. Be sure to include a discussion on the implications that history has on the experiences of these groups today.Please reference at least three sources assigned in class (two of the three must be readings) to support your writing. Using outside sources is strongly encouraged, but not required.

● Labor exploitation
● Cultural Assimilation
● Resistance and Decolonization
Your essay is due Thursday, October 10th by 11:59pm. Late Essays will be accepted through October 12th with
an automatic 20 point deduction.

Paper Guidelines:
● Format: 4-5 pages, typed double spaced (except for header), 1” margins, Times New Roman (Font),
(size) 12, Written in third person; Include page numbers, a title and in-text citations.
● Introduction: should provide reader with a thesis statement and an overview of your essay.
● Thesis Statement: Clearly and concisely states the paper’s main idea/purpose in a single sentence,
which is engaging and/or thought provoking. Thesis statement should respond to essay prompt.
● Body: Paragraphs respond to prompt clearly and concisely; demonstrate understanding of key
concepts/ themes. Integrate citations from the course readings and videos and outside sources, as well as
personal ideas and experiences as examples to enhance/support the essay’s thesis/ main idea.
● Organizational Structure/ Idea development:Writer demonstrates logical sequencing of ideas through
well developed paragraphs; transitional phrases are used to enhance organization.
● Conclusion: Should be engaging and remind the reader of the thesis statement and sum up the
examples and/or arguments presented throughout the essay.
● Mechanics : No errors in punctuation, capitalization and spelling.
● Usage: No errors in sentence structure and word usage.
● Citations: All cited works, both text and visual, are documented in the correct format using MLA
style–Author and page number– (Takaki p. 47), and must include a reference page/work cited page at the
end of essay listing all sources. Work cited page should be your last page of the essay.
